The best way to get started as a doll maker is to make it your hobby. You can begin right away. There are kits available at craft stores that can help you begin. Porcelain doll kits usually contain ready-made doll parts to make construction easier. Once you've become more experienced, you will probably want to learn how to make these parts yourself. Luckily, there are workshops and classes available everywhere that will teach you how to do this yourself. In fact, there are over 700 workshops throughout the world devoted to porcelain doll making.



Craft stores also often carry fabric, patterns, and other materials to start your own cloth doll. You can even find spare doll parts to make your first doll easier to build. You may want to learn to sew if you're interested in making cloth dolls. Sewing is a skill that will surely come in handy for doll makers.

There are many books that can help you get started, no matter what kind of doll making you're interested in. Keep in mind that practice makes perfect. The more dolls you make, the better you will become at making them. So, if your first doll isn't as perfect as you'd like it to be, keep up the hard work and try again!
