impoverished
If you grew up in the suburbs or the country, you may take for granted the green grass and variety of trees and flowers that are all around you. City dwellers experience less nature in their daily lives, and nowhere is this more true than in impoverished urban areas where land often becomes abandoned. Considering the wasted potential of these empty lots and the very real danger of malnutrition to which the impoverished are exposed, it quickly becomes evident that there is a clear need for community gardening.
