INSURANCE AGENT
Education And Training
High school graduates with proven sales abilities are good candidates for insurance agents. Agents should also have good computer skills. The Internet allows agents to compare policies and prices. Software packages let agents try different policies to find the best fit for the client. The ability to speak another language is an asset for agents who work in communities in which there is a large non-English-speaking population.
Insurance sales agents must get a license in the states where they sell insurance. Licensing involves taking pre-licensing courses and passing a state examination. Most states also require continuing education for agents to keep up with the new rules. Some professional organizations offer programs to certify agents in various specialties. This lets the client know that the agent understands the policy.
