The majority of manufacturer's sales representatives distribute machinery and equipment, groceries, and motor vehicles and parts. Employment is available in almost every part of the country. Manufacturers, especially the smaller ones, will cut costs by using independent agents who are paid only if they sell.
As a whole, job opportunities for sales representatives are expected to grow slowly for the next ten years. Still, customers will continue to need to be shown new products. Sales representatives will become more efficient as computer technology allows them to improve their presentations and to answer customer questions on the spot. Prospective employees should do some research to find out which products are most in demand. Companies selling those products will have the best opportunities
