CHAUFFEUR
Outlook
There is a lot of turnover in this profession, which creates many opportunities for drivers. It also allows drivers a chance to grow within a particular company if they wish to get off the road and move into the office. According to government statistics, there were 176,000 people working as taxi or limousine drivers in 2000. About one-third of those drivers worked for suburban transportation or cab companies. The remainder did other forms of driving. A mere 27 percent of the drivers were self-employed.
