Training
The best training for lighting work, as with most of the work in this industry, is experience. Work with the lighting crew of as many high school theatrical productions as you can. Then move on to community theater. What you learn working in the theater will be your most valuable training. You will find that lighting is a complex and highly skilled craft that sets the tone of a film as much as set design or camera angle. Professional gaffers are true artists.
