Simple Truths About Following Up to Close the Deal

Simple Truth #2: Timeline And Culture Are Key

Develop the most effective format and timing for your follow-up based on the target employer's decision-making schedule and the corporate culture. Strike a healthy balance between keeping your image fresh in the interviewer's mind and not becoming a nuisance. Your approach will necessarily differ among various types of prospective employers. Pick up on cues about what the preferred method of contact is for each employer, and carefully record what the interviewer divulges about the hiring timeline. For example, if the interviewer has indicated that the hiring decision will be made within the week, your follow-up will be somewhat compressed. The hiring process often takes much longer than prospective employers anticipate, but it's still important to be mindful of their stated goals and plan accordingly.
