The future for work in stained glass is bright. “It has enjoyed 200 years of steady growth, and now that restoration is becoming more common in this country, that pattern of growth looks likely to continue,” says Gross. The East Coast has always had a high demand, and with the need for restoration growing, that will continue. The West Coast market for stained glass is expanding, too. Each of the major cities of the Midwest support several studios.

“Stained glass can be a very frustrating field, but it can also be very rewarding,” says Gross. “The stained glass artist's job is to create a product of the highest craftsmanship for a client with the highest expectations. Anything less than the best is a failure.”
