MEDICAL LAB TECHNICIAN

Education And Training

Medical technicians generally have a certificate from a hospital, vocational or technical school, or the armed forces. Certificates are awarded when professional competency meets certain standards, usually after at least one year of training. On-the-job training is very important in clinical work because each institution has its own set of procedures. Some states require licensing or registration for medical technicians who work in hospitals or clinics.

Medical technologists usually have earned a four-year college degree, although it is possible to work up to the position after years of experience as a technician.
