Description, Education And Training, John Riel, Corporate Travel Agent, For More InformationSalary, Outlook

Do you like learning about far-away places as much as you like visiting them? If you also like helping people and planning trips, being a travel agent might be a good career choice. Travel agents give people advice on where to go, where to stay, and how to get there.

Salary

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that most travel agents earn between $19,890 and $31,820 per year. Travel agents employed by a travel company receive benefits and a regular salary. Agents who own their own companies might not be able to depend on a regular salary or benefits. Small companies make most of their money from commissions that they receive from airlines, cruise lines, and hotels.

Outlook

The number of travel agents is expected to grow over the next ten years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The number of people traveling will probably increase, although not everyone will use a travel agent. Many people are now using the Internet to make their own travel plans.
