CRUISE DIRECTOR

Outlook

In 2000, 6.9 million passengers sailed on cruise ships, according to the International Council of Cruise Lines, and even more are expected in the coming years. On many cruise ships, there is one crewmember for every two or three passengers, so you can see that many crewmembers are needed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the cruise industry to keep growing. New cruise ships are being built over the next three or four years. This will create many new jobs.

Although a job as a cruise director is not easy to get, you can work your way up to that position. Many people leave the cruise industry after a few years, or take a break from it, so there are often job openings.
