Salary
Salaries in art galleries start at about $25,000 per year, and there may be benefits included. With experience, you may be eligible for a commission. Art dealers and gallery owners work on commission, usually 50 percent of the price of a piece of art. An expensive piece of art will bring in a larger commission, but it will also take more time to sell than will several less costly pieces. Many gallery owners do well, but it is probably not a job in which you will make millions. The people who go into this business do it for the love of art and the excitement of being in the art world.
