WAITER OR WAITRESS

Salary

Most food servers get a small salary, which does not have to be minimum wage but must be at least $2.13 an hour. The rest of the wages come from tips. In a small diner, you will get between $1 and $2 per person for breakfast and lunch. For lunches and dinners, your tips will average from 15 to 20 percent of the check. At fancier restaurants, you will make closer to 20–25 percent of the bill. You may have to share your tips with the cooks and the busing staff. Don't be stingy with this and you will get your orders out quickly and your tables cleaned immediately.
