TAXI DRIVER

Outlook

In 2000, some 59,000 people drove a cab. According to the Department of Labor, the job outlook looks strong through 2010 given the high rate of turnover across the country. Many cab companies add to their staff during peak seasons such as the holidays, which lead to full-time positions. Cab drivers often move on to related work, like driving a truck or limousine, or they may change their profession entirely. There are few who drive a cab their entire lives. In Les Krantz's Jobs Rated Almanac, driving a cab rated 246 out of 250 careers in terms of work conditions and stress.
