RESTAURANT MANAGER
Education And Training
Many managers start in entry-level positions—beginning their careers as cooks, hosts, bartenders, or food servers— and work their way up to management. Previous restaurant experience is important because it gives managers a better understanding of their employees and the difficulties of their individual jobs. The average restaurant manager spends three or four years in the trenches, gaining all the knowledge he or she needs to run a restaurant.
