PICTURE FRAMER
Outlook
Skilled picture framers work in frame shops, art galleries, and museums. The majority of frame shops are mom-and-pop operations with one or two full- or part-time employees. If you are at the front counter, you should be a people person with math, art, and design skills. Workers in the back room must be organized, detail oriented, good at math, and able to do clean and accurate work.
If you decide to open your own picture framing business, consider building part of your customer base by establishing relationships with people in the arts and crafts community. If local artists and craftspeople are pleased with your work, your business will expand when they recommend you to their friends and associates. You may also want to stock your shop with framed prints and decorating accessories for added sales.
