FOLEY ARTIST

Training

This is another one of those careers in which experience proves to be your best training. Check out your local radio station to see if the DJs use sound effects. An internship there would be a good place to start. Of course, you also can start by making sounds in your own home. Record what you do and ask people to identify the sounds. If they can tell what the sounds are, you are doing a good job. Work in your high school theater department or in the local community theater and do all of the sounds needed for the shows. You can find tapes of sound effects at your local library. Use them to practice and perfect your craft. A good Foley artist may earn up to $400 a day.
