Postgraduate Training

There are eight dental specialties that are recognized by the American Dental Association. Becoming a specialist usually requires from one to four additional years of training beyond the dental degree and, in most instances, practical experience in the field.

Specialty training is offered at some dental schools and at many hospitals and medical centers. Further information on institutions offering postgraduate training can be secured from: The Commission on Dental Accreditation, American Dental Association, 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.
