Osteopathic Medicine

Admission Prospects

The number of applicants to osteopathic schools continues to grow. Existing schools have responded by enlarging the size of classes so that currently there are over 9,600 osteopathic students being trained. At the same time, the number of graduates is also increasing. Consequently, there will be an increase in the approximately 5% of the physician population made up by osteopaths. Replacing IMGS with osteopathic residents will accelerate this growth.

Students who are interested in attending an osteopathic medical school should be aware that osteopathic medical schools, like many allopathic schools, utilize a centralized application service for processing student applications. To obtain the application packet, which contains an application form for the AACOMAS and procedures for applying as well as materials describing each college and its fees, write to the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service, 5550 Friendship Boulevard, Suite 310, Chevy Chase, MD 20815-7231.
