What Not to Ask

Questions About Leave Policies

This goes hand in hand with the second question. Asking about whether you can take time off and still get paid before actually receiving an offer is just wrong. Resist this impulse entirely. These may be legitimate concerns for you, but at this point they are premature. You can always ask these questions once you receive an offer. For now, just assume that the firm's time-off policy is designed to make you feel guilty about leaving the office. Also assume that the firm's paid parental leave policy is in the neighborhood of 12 weeks. We cannot speak for all firms, but this is true for many of them. If your firm offers more than that, you will be pleasantly surprised later.
